We have been developing design-led innovative water systems for over 20 years, and as designers and manufacturers of the E6, our experts are in the best possible position to provide you with all the information on the E6 water dispenser.

In this review, we take an in-depth look at the Borg & Overström B6 water dispenser. Evaluating key features, specifications, and limitations, by the end, you will know exactly if the Borg & Overström E6 is the water dispenser for you.

Customisation: what water dispense options do I need?

When reviewing any product, it’s easy to start your inquiry by asking questions like: “What is different about the E6?”

Though these are important questions and qualities to know, it’s best to start with you.

So, let’s first focus on “What dispense options do you need?”

Deciding on how many dispense options you need ultimately comes down to you. With both tap systems and water dispensers offering a variety of different dispensing options, you need to know what you’re specifically in the market for. Remember, each dispense option is purposed to help customise your water system to your needs – you might not need every available dispense option.

With that in mind, the Borg & Overström E6 is designed with 4 available dispense options:

  • Chilled & Ambient
  • Chilled, Sparkling & Ambient
  • Chilled, Ambient & Hot
  • Chilled, Sparkling, Ambient & Hot

Those who are familiar with our B4 or E4 models or have seen our comparison between the B4.2 and E6, might have already spotted the difference in these dispense options.

Put simply, the E6 is capable of dispensing all 4 options in a single dispenser: chilled, sparkling, ambient & hot – a perfect solution to those who need a variety of dispense options.

This capability is unique to the E6 and is the result of improved innovative technology. Older models, therefore, will often require a decision to choose up to a maximum of 3 dispense options.

Each dispense option (above) correlates to a specification. These include your water system and max power consumption. Below is a table that clearly lists these specifications:

Dispense optionsMax power consumptionWater system
Chilled & Ambient140WDry Chill™
Chilled, Sparkling, & Ambient200WDry Chill™
Chilled, Ambient, & Hot1500WDry Chill™
Chilled, Sparkling, Ambient, & Hot1600WDry Chill™

Inevitably, the hot dispense option does require a higher maximum power consumption. However, the E6 features an eco-mode software to help with energy efficiency. In turn, this makes the E6 one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly water dispensers on the market today. Should these features not be required, the eco mode functionality can be turned off.

Note: all dispense options follow our DryChill™ water system.

What is a DryChill™ water system?

Unique to Borg & Overström, DryChill™ differentiates from other dispensing systems’ gradual chilled process. DryChill™ takes water from a supply source and directly chills it using a seven-metre chilling coil on its way to the dispenser faucet. This process of cooling ensures that the water dispensed is both fresh and chilled.

Watch how Dry Chill™ works:

Common in many other water coolers on the market today, is a gradual cooling process. This translates to a system whereby water is cooled gradually over time and is stored in containers.

In contrast, the DryChill™ process immediately chills water directly from the source. This provides a fresher taste to the water while also drastically reducing the risk of any contamination or impurity.

This entirely sealed cooling system also contains an environmentally friendly coolant coil that reaches sub-zero temperatures to ensure the water that reaches your glass is ice cool and refreshing.

Key features of the Borg & Overström E6

The features and benefits are where we can return to that beginning question: “What is different about the E6?”

Borg & Overström E6 features a variety of benefits that distinguish it as the next step in countertop convenience. Utilising innovative technology, each feature builds towards one of the most versatile water dispensers on the market today. These features include:

  • A four way dispense option – Chilled, ambient, sparkling, and hot. Eliminating the need for multiple dispensing outlets, the E6 covers all four bases. The hot water temperature from a E6 is set at 92°C.
  • Dry Chill® – Our unique superior cooling system operates with an environmentally friendly R290a refrigerant gas. This cooling system provides freshly chilled (and adjustable) water temperatures between 2° and 11°C.
  • EcoMode – A revolutionary advance in energy saving software; helping end-users save money sustainably by autoregulating a machine’s idle state.
  • Totality® – The Borg & Overström methodology behind hygiene-assured refreshment which provides an exceptional standard of water safety and quality cleanliness.

Known for its innovative design, resourcefulness, and integrated technology, the E6 is fully designed and manufactured by Borg & Overström. All materials used in its construction are near-shored and manufactured here in the UK.

The B6 has excelled as one of the most popular choices for facilities managers who often face the need for multiple dispensing outlets/systems to accommodate their audience – leading to extra expense. So, if multiple dispensing outlets are a focus in your criteria, the multiple dispense options and features of eco-mode might make the E6 a perfect match for you.

But before you decide, let’s take a look into the possible limitations and make sure you get the water dispenser that best suits your needs.

Limitations of the Borg & Overström E6

No water dispenser is wholly perfect. The question we want to answer is “what is the perfect product for you?”

The E6 is a progressive design that utilises and integrates modern technology to enable new and improved features. But do you need them?

Let’s take a look at the main limitations that you’ll need to consider when deciding on whether or not the Borg & Overström E6 is a fit for you.

With the capacity of delivering 80 litres-per-hour, the E6 offers a high output at an energy efficient level. However, if your specific environment is more secluded and won’t be seeing high traffic demands, this capacity becomes a bonus. Not a necessity.

When using the EcoMode functionality users have found that the first cup, after this function is used, can differ from the set temperature. Essentially, the eco mode function will activate when the dispenser is not used for an extended period of time. At which point, the dispenser enters into eco mode while the dispenser is inactive. This is designed to help save on energy consumption. A consequence of this, however, is that it can take a single cup of water for the dispenser to reconfigure back to the desired (or set) temperatures.

Note: the eco mode functionality is a completely optional feature, designed to improve sustainability. It can be manually turned off.
