How to Upgrade the Firmware on the E6 Water Dispenser
This is a video explaining how to update the firmware on your Borg & Overström E6 Water Dispenser.
You will need a Firmware Upgrade Key.
Observe the File Select switch at the top of the key.
When updating a version 1 main board you need the number 1 switch in the UP position and the rest in the DOWN position.
– A version 1 main board can be identified by a set of 2 pins at the bottom of the main control board labelled PUMP
When updating a version 2 main board you need the number 2 switch in the UP position and the rest in the DOWN position.
– A version 2 main board can be identified by 2 sets of 2 pins at the bottom of the main control board labelled FAN1 and FAN2
When updating the firmware on your touch control panel HMI you need the number 3 switch in the UP position and the rest in the DOWN position.
The number 4 switch is unused.
Firstly we need to update the firmware on the main board.
Turn off power to the unit.
Remove the top panel by removing the two screws at the rear.
This will expose the main control board to allow us to update the firmware.
Identify whether you have a version 1 or a version 2 main board by referring to the beginning of this video.
Push up the number 1 or number 2 switch on the Firmware key, depending on which board version you have.
Place the key into the program pin slots, ensuring the 3.3v pins align with each other.
Turn on power to the unit.
You should see a solid red light and a flashing blue light.
After 10-20seconds the blue light will turn solid indicating the firmware has been installed.
Turn off power to the unit.
Remove the firmware key
The ProCore® has now been updated. We now need to update the firmware on the touch control panel.
Carefully pries the control panel off the front of the dispenser using both hands
We now have access to the HMI board.
On the Firmware key. Put the number 3 file select switch into the UP position with the rest in the DOWN position.
Place the pins into the program slot in the board. Ensure the 3.3v pin aligns with 3.3v slot on the board.
You will need to hold the key in place when turning on power to the unit.
Similarly to before, you will see a solid red light and a flashing blue light while the firmware is being installed.
When the blue light turns solid, the firmware has been successfully installed.
Turn off power to the unit again before removing the key.
Firstly ensure water is dispensing from the hot side by pressing the lock icon, then holding the hot icon.
After you have seen water dispensing from the hot side, this mean the hot tank is definitely full and we can safely take the unit out of commissioning mode.
To do this, hold the lock icon for 20 seconds.
Please note, to take the unit out of commissioning mode, the unit cannot have been powered on for more than ten minutes.
If the unit has been powered on for more than ten minutes, turn off the power and turn on the power to the unit again, then hold the lock icon for 20 seconds.
Finally, check all dispense options are functioning correctly.
The firmware update is now complete.
